Alec Baldwin is cashing in on his beloved Donald Trump impression, taking it from the screen to the page, announcing plans Wednesday to pen a faux memoir as the U.S. president.
Penguin Press is set to publish the book, to be co-written by Baldwin and Kurt Anderson. It will be a parody account of Trump’s first year in office, and has a mouthful of a title — You Can’t Spell America Without Me: The Really Tremendous Inside Story of My Fantastic First Year as President Donald J. Trump.
It will feature Trump’s “refreshingly compulsive un-PC candour” in regard to his family, world leaders, and the year’s major events.
The book will be published on November 7, just in time for Christmas, and right around the time Trump was elected. But you may want to wait for the audiobook version, which will feature Baldwin reading in his Trump voice, made famous on Saturday Night Live (much to Trump’s chagrin).
Anderson is a novelist and the founding editor of the satirical Spy magazine, that now famously referred to Trump in the ’80s as a “short-fingered vulgarian.”
“I think we’ll be channeling and amplifying the real Trump,” Andersen said to the New York Times. “Writing for a five- or 10-minute sketch is different than writing a book, which has to be a narrative.”
Baldwin admitted to the paper, “I think it’s fair to say that Kurt will do most of the writing. We have that arrangement whereby he doesn’t put on the wig, I don’t open up a Word document.”
This isn’t the first Trump parody book on shelves or in development. Man Booker Prize winner Howard Jacobson recently announced he will be publishing a Trump-based comic fairy tale titled Pussy. And comedian Michael Ian Black released a children’s book before Trump was even elected, titled A Child’s First Book of Trump, serving as a cautionary warning of a villainous character.
