Democratic Alliance (DA) leader Mmusi Maimane says he has convened a meeting of leaders of all opposition parties in Johannesburg on Monday to agree on the way forward to remove President Jacob Zuma from Office.
Maimane says it is time for South Africans from all walks of life to stand up for the Constitution and all that it represents.
This follows the cabinet reshuffle on Thursday night that saw five ministers, including Pravin Gordhan and his deputy, removed from the Finance portfolio.
Maimane says President Jacob Zuma's decision to fire Pravin Gordhan is devastating for the future of the country. "We are fast running out of time to save our country from the clutches of the Zuma administration,"emphasized Maimane.
The DA leader stressed that the ANC that was brought by leaders such as Nelson Mandela is now an organisation run by Zuma and the Gupta bosses. "It's now more than ever, that our commitment to removing Zuma from power is more resolute."
The DA says it will hold a march to the ANC's headquarters to call on the governing party to support its Motion of No Confidence in President Zuma.
Maimane says he will lead the march to Luthuli House on Friday next week.
Parliament confirmed that the DA has submitted a request for a motion of no confidence debate in President Zuma. It will be the first motion of no confidence brought by Maimane in 2017.
Maimane also tabled a motion of No confidence in Zuma, in March last year, following the sacking of former Finance Minister Nhlanhla Nene in December 2015.
Another motion was also brought in November last year by Maimane. All motions have failed so far.
Such a motion requires 201 of the 400 National Assembly MPs to vote in favor of a Vote of NO confidence motion in order for it to be successful.
If such a motion is successful, then the President, his Deputy, Cabinet Ministers and all their deputies must resign as provided for in section 102 of the Constitution.
